The Moldovan military participates in the multinational exercise “Saber Guardian” held in Romania



CHISINAU, May 28, 2023 — A contingent of the National Army is participating, between May 29 and June 9, in the multinational exercise “Saber Guardian 2023” (SG23), which is part of the “Defender Europe 23” exercise complex.

“SG23” is led by the United States Land Forces in Europe (USAREUR) and the Joint Forces Command “General Ioan-Emanoil Florescu” within the Defense Staff, Romanian Army.

“Saber Guardian 2023” is a field exercise, which aims to increase interoperability at the joint and multinational level with the armed forces of allied and partner states. The training takes place simultaneously in the military training grounds in the counties of Constanta, Ialomita, Brasov, Galati, Braila and Tulcea, in Romania.

This year, the military contingent of the “Stefan cel Mare” Motorized Infantry Brigade will travel to the training site in Romania with military equipment units from the National Army. The Moldovan military will train at the Smardan Training Center in Galati County, Romania.

It should be noted that about 10,000 soldiers from 13 allied and partner countries participate in “SG 23” — Albania, Bulgaria, Italy, France, Greece, North Macedonia, Romania, the Republic of Moldova, Montenegro, the United States of America, Poland, Portugal and the Netherlands.

The “Saber Guardian” exercise takes place in accordance with the External Activity Plan of the Ministry of Defense and the National Army of the Republic of Moldova for the year 2023.
