Moldovan British Relationship Makes Progress



CHISINAU, November 25, 2011 — The bilateral relations between the Republic of Moldova and the United Kingdom Defense Ministries have considerably progressed, Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta, stated during the graduation ceremony of the “Defense Security and Defense Sector Management” Course carried out by the Defense Academy of the United Kingdom.

During the conclusion ceremony, Defense Minister Vitalie Marinuta and the UK Ambassador to Moldova, Keith Shannon, awarded graduation certificates to nearly 20 participants from the Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Parliamentary Committee on National Security, Defense and Public Order, Supreme Security Council, Cabinet of Prime Minister and Public Policy Institute.

The Minister of Defense praised the fact such a course had been held in Chisinau. Moreover, Marinuta pointed out the issues proposed by the British colleagues and covered within this course are quite topical and useful for the security and defense experts.

“I am sure this course is of great importance for the security and defense institutions staff. This is a new experience marking one more step in the Moldovan-British dialogue, for our British mates’ efforts in the national defense system reform process are huge”, the Minister of Defense stated.

British Ambassador to Chisinau, Keith Shannon, mentioned the activity under consideration represents a specific action which is part of a larger cooperation program in the defense and security reform area, implemented by the British Embassy to Chisinau.

“We will keep identifying new trends of cooperation, fix new goals and objectives to be reached due to the joint efforts of the two countries. We will be always open to progressive dialogue and support the Chisinau Government’s support in the reform process”, Ambassador Shannon pointed out.

The “Security and Defense Sector Management” Course held during November 21 — 25 aimed at providing participants with all the necessary tools of strategic analysis of defense and security problems.
