Moldovan Peacekeepers in KFOR Mission



CHISINAU, February 4, 2015 — After 5 months of mandate, the second National Army contingent deployed to KFOR reports the fulfillment of all the missions in the theater of operations.

According to the Moldovan contingent Commander, LTC Boris Macovei, the peacekeepers conduct patrol missions covering daily up to 400 km of the responsibility zone in the western part of Kosovo region.

The source specified that the Moldovan platoon carries out missions of joint patrol (on foot and by car), guard and security of important facilities, checkpoints organization, and ensure the security of “Camp Vilaggio Italia” base from Pech village, where the contingents of the MNBG-W (Multinational Battle Group — West) are deployed.

Also, LTC Macovei mentioned the activity of the EOD team of the Moldovan contingent. The EOD engineers continue to search the region looking for and destroying the explosives remained after the armed conflict.

The Commander said that during the same period, the Moldovan service members participated in alpinism exercises and were trained by their Italian colleagues from the Alpini regiment for patrol missions in mountain zones.

The second National Army contingent was deployed to Kosovo in September 2014 and consists of 40 servicemembers, out of which 32 infantrymen, 7 EOD engineers, and one staff officer.
