American Military Officials at the Ministry of Defense

CHISINAU, December 2, 2015 — Chief of Main Staff, National Army Commander, Brigadier Gen. Igor Gorgan, met today with Lt. Gen. Frederick Ben Hodges, Commander of the US Army in Europe, and Maj. Gen. Gregory A. Lusk, Commander of North Carolina National Guard (USA) at the Ministry of Defense HQ.

The discussions were centered on the Moldovan-American defense cooperation and the planning of joint training activities for 2016.

Brigadier Gen. Igor Gorgan thanked the American delegation for the US contribution to the National Army modernization, for the assistance within the projects implemented both in the Republic of Moldova and abroad, as well as for the scholarships offered to Moldovan officers in prestigious military schools in the USA.

The National Army Commander pointed out how important the multinational exercises in Ukraine, Germany, Romania, and Bulgaria are for the professional training of Moldovan military. The participation in such exercises proves, once again, that the National Army is interoperable with NATO member states’ armies.

Lt. Gen. Hodges appreciated Moldova’s contribution to the KFOR mission in Kosovo and to the UN operations, mentioning that in this way the National Army becomes a contributor to world peace.

The Commander of the US Army in Europe stated that the American Government will continue to support the National Army reformation process.
