Moldovan peacekeepers are training for UNIFIL

CHISINAU, August 17, 2022 — The soldiers of the National Army who will participate in the Peacekeeping Mission in the Republic of Lebanon — the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), are training in compliance with the rules of activity in an international operation.

According to Colonel Gheorghe Silnic head of the Combined Training and Doctrines Directorate within August 15-19, the peacekeepers are participating in training sessions in compliance with the provisions of the UN mandate of this mission.

The source mentioned that the officers and sergeants, who will be deployed in the mission on August 23, will work in the operation`s headquarters. At the same time, starting in February 2023, the National Army plans to deploy a contingent of 32 soldiers to UNIFIL which will operate in the area of responsibility of the Italian Forces Command.

The initiative to deploy the National Army soldiers within the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon supports the objective of intensifying the contribution to ensuring peace by participating in international missions, provided for in the Government`s Activity Program, but also in the context of the implementation of the provisions of Law no. 219/2015 regarding the participation of the Republic of Moldova in international missions and operations.
