The military commemorated those who fell in the War in Afghanistan



CHISINAU, February 15, 2023 — Today, in Chisinau, Balti and Cahul, the soldiers of the National Army participated in the demonstrations dedicated to the Day of Commemoration of those who fell in the War in Afghanistan.

In Chisinau, the action started with the laying of flowers at the monument of Stephen the Great and Saint. Afterwards, the column made up of veterans, soldiers and representatives of the central and local public authorities moved in a march towards the Memorial Complex “Feciolor Patriei — Sfanta Amintire” in the Roiscani sector of the capital, where flowers were laid and a rally took place. The event was attended by the President of the Parliament, Igor Grosu, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Defense Igor Cutie, the Commander of the National Army, Brigadier General Eduard Ohladciuc and the Advisor to the Minister of Defense, President of the “Federation of Veterans and Reservists of Force Structures” Association, Colonel ® Anatolie Cociug .

“Today, we commemorate, first and foremost, those who never returned home — they are people whose lives were suddenly, unjustly and tragically cut short. The memory of these young people will remain alive, they could create families, stand next to their sisters and brothers, but they fulfilled their duty as soldiers. At the same time, today we are thinking and with all those who survived and who keep the memory of the fallen comrades”, said the President of the Parliament, mentioned the speaker Igor Grosu during the demonstration.

Official data show that in the war in Afghanistan, which took place between 1979 and 1989, about 12,500 Moldovans participated, of which 301 people lost their lives, four disappeared without a trace, and another 257 became invalids.
