Minister of Defense Anatolie Nosatîi - working visit to Paris

CHISINAU, March 6, 2024 — On March 7-8, Defense Minister Anatolie Nosatîi will be in Paris as part of a delegation led by Moldovan President Maia Sandu, where he will have an official meeting with his French counterpart, Sébastien Lecornu, and will sign a defense cooperation agreement with the Ministry of Armed Forces of the French Republic.

The document updates the Agreement between the defense institutions of the two countries, signed in 1998, and creates a framework for deepening defense cooperation.

The Agreement will cover the following areas important for the development and modernization of the National Army: defense policy, participation in international missions and operations, airspace control and management, military information technology and telecommunications, military surveying, human resources management, language training, logistics, military medicine, financial and budgetary management.

In the light of the evolving regional security situation and related challenges, the updating of the document was necessary to strengthen joint efforts to combat and counter threats to national security. On the other hand, the Republic of Moldova is taking determined steps towards accession to the European Union, an area of security and peace on the European continent.

The agreement provides for official visits and working meetings, exchange of experience, joint training and exercises, internships, consultations, conferences, courses, specializations and other forms of advanced scientific training.

The document also provides for the creation of a Moldovan-French commission, which will evaluate the joint actions carried out and draw up and validate a multiannual plan for bilateral cooperation in the field of defense. The commission will meet annually in the French Republic or in the Republic of Moldova.

The Republic of Moldova and France cooperate in the field of defense on the basis of the Agreement between the defense institutions of the two countries, signed in Paris on July 15, 1998. On 23 September 2023, during the visit of French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu to Chisinau, Defense Minister Anatolie Nosatîi and his French counterpart agreed to strengthen the partnership by signing a bilateral document of intent.
