Demining missions in March

CHISINAU, April 2, 2024 — During the month of March, the engineers of the National Army carried out 11 demining missions.

As a result, 11 explosive objects were detected and destroyed in the districts of Balti, Anenii Noi, Causeni, Criuleni, Leova, Orhei, Ungheni and Hincesti.

According to the senior officer of the Engineer Service, Major Ivan Cornegruța, one of the most dangerous demining missions was carried out in the municipality of Balti, on Maria Cebotari Street, where the engineer team of the Motorized Infantry Brigade “Moldova”, led by Captain Dionis Cebotarean, detected and neutralized an F1 hand grenade.

During the same period, the bomb disposal team of the Engineer Battalion ,,Codru’’, led by Major Ion Golovei, was called to the locality of Tomai, Leova district, where they neutralised an 81 mm calibre thrower bomb.

The source noted that all the explosive objects dated back to the Second World War period and were destroyed under maximum security conditions.

Since the beginning of the year, 21 demining missions have been carried out, resulting in the destruction of 31 explosive objects of various types and four cartridges.

Given that most explosive objects are detected during spring agricultural work, the military engineers warn:

— Notify 112 or local public authorities (town hall, police);

— Mark the place where the explosive object was found;

— DO NOT touch the munitions with your hand or other objects;

— DO NOT hit or move munitions found in the ground or on the surface;

— DO NOT dismantle warheads or other components;

— DO NOT throw the explosive object into the fire.
