The initiative to strengthen defense capabilities, discussed at the Ministry of Defense

CHISINAU, April 25, 2024 — The Minister of Defense, Anatolie Nosatîi, today had a meeting with the director of the Defense and Security Cooperation Directorate of the Operations Division, NATO Headquarters, Piers Cazalet, who is on an official visit to the Republic of Moldova .

The officials reviewed the cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the North Atlantic Alliance in the context of the 30 years since the signing of the Partnership for Peace Program. At the same time, the topics related to the implementation of the projects benefiting our country within the Defense Capacity Building Initiative (DCBI) were discussed.

In this context, Minister Nosatîi thanked the NATO partners for the assistance provided over the years in various fields, including military medicine, which will contribute to the transformation and modernization of the National Army.

The parties also referred to the extended package approved last year for the Republic of Moldova within DCBI, which includes 18 initiatives and projects, noting that they remain a priority and an important tool for developing military capabilities, especially in the current context of regional security.

Other topics covered were efforts to combat hybrid threats, strengthening the resilience of national institutions to new challenges and promoting strategic communication at the national level.

At the same time, Minister Nosatîi spoke about the objectives and reforms of the defense sector, the support of external partners in strengthening the defense capabilities of our country, as well as the desire to expand the contribution of the Republic of Moldova to international peace and security.

At the end of the meeting, the two officials signed the act of donation of the batch of medical equipment, which comes through the NATO Defense Capacity Building Initiative.
