Romanian Official at the Ministry of DefenseCHISINAU, March 13, 2015 — Minister of Defense, Viorel Cibotaru, met with the Ambassador of Romania to the Republic of Moldova, Marius Lazurca. The event was also attended by Chief of Main Staff, National Army Commander, Brigadier Gen. Igor Gorgan, and the Romanian military attaché, Col. Dumitru Neacsu. The meeting’s agenda comprised issues of mutual interest and regarded the cooperation between the two armies, as well as the development prospective of the defense and security sector of the Republic of Moldova. Viorel Cibotaru stated that one of the National Army priorities is a wider participation in international peacekeeping missions, and the new leadership of the Ministry of Defense will make every effort to achieve this goal. Also, Minister Cibotaru appreciated the assistance given by Romania in the military education field, as well as its actions aiming to modernize the defense sector. Marius Lazurca mentioned that the cooperation between the Romanian Army and the National Army has been developing on an upward trend and expressed his confidence that this cooperation will be reinforced in the future. The cooperation between the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Moldova and the Ministry of National Defense of Romania started in December, 1992, when the two countries signed the first Cooperation Agreement. |
