The Women`s Association of the National Army examined the Strategic Action Plan for 2021-2022



CHISINAU November 27, 2020 - The members of the Association of Women in the National Army met today, at the Ministry of Defense, during a general meeting for the analysis and examination of the Strategic Action Plan 2021-2022.

The event was attended by the Minister of Defense Victor Gaiciuc, representatives of UN Women, the Public Association "Gender-Center" and other non-governmental organizations.

Minister Gaiciuc mentioned the importance with which the institution approaches the gender dimension in the national security and defense sector. "This year, as the entire community celebrates the 20th anniversary of the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security, I want to express my support for the military institution`s efforts to develop policies, standards and standards and gender equality practices, "said the minister of defense.

As a sign of appreciation for the efforts to promote gender equality in the defense and security sector, Minister Victor Gaiciuc decorated with distinctions and diplomas of the National Army several representatives of UN Women, NGOs and AFAN. The new members of the Association also received ID cards.

In her turn, the country representative of UN Women in the Republic of Moldova, Dominika Stojanoska, appreciated the progress made by the Ministry of Defense in implementing the Resolution, as well as the dedication with which AFAN members fulfill their responsibilities in this regard.

"UN Women appreciates the efforts of the Ministry of Defense and the National Army Women`s Association to promote gender equality, to serve as promoters of gender equality and to support the increase of women`s representation in the defense sector. We recognize the role that the Ministry plays in promoting the 'Women, Peace and Security Agenda' and in implementing the National Program for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security for 2018-2021. Because the defense sector is still very masculinized, the National Army Women`s Association has an important role to play both in changing society`s perception of women in the military and in changing attitudes toward women working in this sector " said Dominika Stojanoska.

According to the president of AFAN, Elena Taralunga, the meeting addressed issues related to preventing and combating discrimination, sexual harassment and gender-based violence, as well as the successes in implementing the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 "Women, Peace and security ".At the same time, the meeting examined the AFAN Strategic Plan for 2021-2022, which provides a series of actions in support of the National Program for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security for 2018-2021. .
