Military Engineers Destroy Almost 1300 Explosive Objects in 2021

 CHISINAU, January 10, 2022 - In 2021, the engineers of the National Army from the Chisinau, Balti and Cahul garrisons found and destroyed 1335 explosive objects and 27868 cartridges throughout the country.

According to Lieutenant-Colonel Igor Livitchi, from the Engineering Service, last year, military engineers were most often requested in Stefan-Voda, Orhei and Ungheni districts.

The source specified that the largest missions took place in Rascaieti and Rascaietii-Noi localities, Stefan-Voda district, where the soldiers from the "Codru" Genius Battalion detected and neutralized a total of 571 explosive objects and over 14,300 cartridges.

During the same period, the team of engineers from the "Stefan cel Mare" Motorized Infantry Brigade was requested in the village of Plop-Stiubei, Causeni district. Following a field search, the military identified 198 explosives and 1,100 cartridges.

At the same time, the engineers from the "Dacia" Motorized Infantry Brigade intervened in the villages of Ivanovca Noua and Lipoveni in Cimislia district, where, following the agricultural and forestry works, 32 ammunition were discovered, which were destroyed at the unit`s Training Center.

It should be noted that among the explosive objects detected in 2021 were anti-personnel and anti-tank mines, hand grenades, UZRGM warheads, grenade launchers, artillery shells and aviation bombs. All ammunition dates back to the Second World War and posed an increased risk to life. They were destroyed in maximum security.
