Cooperation between the Ministry of Defence and the North Atlantic Alliance discussed at the defence institution`s headquarters



CHISINAU, February 19, 2024 — Defense Minister Anatolie Nosatîi and National Army Commander Brigadier General Eduard Ohladciuc met today with the delegation led by Admiral Stuart B. Munsch, Commander of the NATO Joint Force Command Naples (JFCN), who is on an official visit to the Republic of Moldova on the occasion of participation in the regional exercise “REGEX −24”.

On this occasion, the officials reviewed the cooperation between the Ministry of Defence and the North Atlantic Alliance in the 30 years since the launch of the Partnership for Peace Programme, as well as the efforts undertaken to strengthen the defence capabilities of our country.

At the same time, the parties referred to the training of the Moldovan military in national and international exercises in accordance with Western standards, as well as the contribution of the Republic of Moldova to global security through participation in peacekeeping missions.

In this context, Anatolie Nosatîi noted that this year marks 10 years of participation of Moldovan military in the KFOR peacekeeping mission and also 10 years of the National Army benefiting from projects under the Defence Capability Building Initiative (DCBI), which has brought a number of opportunities for development and modernisation of the national defence system.

For his part, Admiral Stuart B. Munsch, appreciated the contribution of the Moldovan military to the KFOR peacekeeping mission in Kosovo, as well as the national authorities’ management of the large influx of refugees from Ukraine. He also highlighted the readiness of the Alliance to continue assisting the Moldovan Ministry of Defence in its efforts to modernise and develop the capabilities necessary for participation in peacekeeping missions and crisis management.
