Demining missions in June

CHIȘINĂU, July 1, 2024 — During the month of June, the engineers of the National Army executed 15 demining missions.

Following these, 14 explosive objects were detected and destroyed in the localities: Chisinau, Balti, Anenii Noi, Cimișlia, Cahul, Râșcani, Lipcani and Hâncești.

According to the senior officer of the Engineering Service, Major Ivan Cornegruța, one of the most dangerous demining missions took place in the municipality of Bălți, where military engineers from the “Ștefan cel Mare” Motorized Infantry Brigade, led by Captain Dionis Cebotarean, identified a anti-tank mine TM-46. The dangerous object was discovered during some road repair work.

In the same period, the Genius team of the “Codru” Engineer Battalion, led by Captain Nicolae Chelaru, was requested in the town of Caracui, Hîncești district, where an 82 mm caliber grenade was neutralized.

All of the munitions were from the Second World War period and presented an increased risk to life. The explosives were destroyed under maximum security conditions at the National Army Training Center.

Since the beginning of the year, 71 demining missions have been carried out, as a result of which 90 explosive objects of various types and five cartridges were destroyed.

Military engineers warn that if you detect an explosive object:

— Mark the place where the explosive object was detected;

— DO NOT touch the ammunition with your hand or other objects;

— DO NOT hit or move ammunition found in the ground or on the surface;

— DO NOT disassemble warheads or other components;

— DO NOT throw the explosive object into the fire.
