The KFOR-20 Moldovan military contingent, ready to execute the peacekeeping mission in Kosovo



CHISINAU, January 25, 2024 — The National Army deployed the 20th contingent of peacekeepers to the KFOR peacekeeping mission in Kosovo.

The official ceremony was attended by the advisor to the President of the Republic of Moldova in the field of defense and national security, secretary of the Supreme Security Council, Stanislav Secrieru, the leadership of the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff of the National Army, the ambassador of the United States of America (USA) in our country, Kent D. Logsdon, the Italian ambassador in Chisinau, Lorenzo Tomassoni, the head of the NATO Liaison Office in the Republic of Moldova, Michaela Šimáková, as well as military attachés.

In his message, Stanislav Secrieru congratulated the contingent of peacekeepers and thanked the military for the essential contribution they bring to the achievement of national security objectives. “Being engaged in this mission, you contribute to the promotion and strengthening of the positive image of the Republic of Moldova within the international community”, said the adviser to the President of the Republic of Moldova in the field of national defense and security.

For his part, the Minister of Defense, Anatolie Nosatîi emphasized that this year marks 10 years since the Republic of Moldova participated with soldiers in the peacekeeping mission in Kosovo. “This number speaks about the professionalism of the National Army soldiers, the responsibility and dedication of the 20 contingents that the Republic of Moldova has deployed in the KFOR mission in an effort to maintain international peace and stability”.

For six months, those 41 soldiers will perform security and guarding missions of military objectives and patrolling the area of responsibility.

It should be noted that for the first time, four military women will also participate in this peacekeeping mission.

The Moldovan military will be part of the West Regional Command (Regional Command-West) and will be deployed in the Camp Villaggio Italia military base in the town of Pech, Kosovo.
