Bilateral military cooperation, discussed in Chisinau by the defense ministers of the Republic of Moldova and the Federal Republic of Germany (video)



CHISINAU, May 31, 2024 — The Minister of Defense Anatolie Nosatîi and the Minister of Defense of the Federal Republic of Germany, Boris Pistorius, held press statements today in the context of the German official’s visit to Chisinau and the transmission, on this occasion, of a batch of medical assistance to the National Army.

During the event, the two ministers spoke about the current state of bilateral cooperation, the projects implemented in the National Army with the support of the German Government, but also the perspectives of strengthening the partnership in support of the objectives of modernizing the defense sector in our country and increasing national resilience in facing security challenges.

According to Minister Nosatîi, it is for the second time that, in a relatively short and complex period, a German defense minister makes an official visit to the Republic of Moldova, which confirms the fact that Germany continues to be with us in the strategic integration aspirations European, implementing democratic reforms, but also strengthening defense capabilities, especially in the current unstable regional security context.

“I am glad that your visit, Mr. Minister, coincides with the reception ceremony of the assistance batch for the National Army, which represents another important step in the joint efforts to modernize the institution and, in particular, to provide the force with the latest medical equipment generation. These assets will greatly improve the management of medical emergencies and first aid in difficult terrain conditions. These are just a part of the goods received by the National Army over the years from the German Government”, said Anatolie Nosatîi at the press event, also referring to other assistance lots offered by the German side for increasing military mobility and stock management of armaments and ammunition of the National Army.

Anatolie Nosatîi also reiterated his gratitude for Germany’s support of the strategic objectives of the Republic of Moldova at the international level. “We appreciate the fact that, together with other partners, the Federal Republic of Germany supports our efforts to strengthen defense capabilities within international organizations, as well as the firm commitment to European integration, a vital strategic objective that will ensure the country’s multi-level development, but and a safer and more prosperous environment for citizens. I am confident that today’s constructive dialogue will boost our cooperation, because all we want now is to have sufficient defense capabilities to be able to maintain peace and ensure a stable and prosperous security environment for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova”, the defense minister said in his message.

For his part, Minister Boris Pistorius mentioned that Germany will always be on the side of the Republic of Moldova, which is part of the European family and is taking important steps towards joining the EU.

“We will not allow Russia to continue its destabilization attempts and will do everything possible to counter them. We support you with great pleasure in strengthening the defense capabilities of the Republic of Moldova. In this regard, I want to mention that Germany will finance the purchase of another 14 Piranha armored personnel carriers, in addition to the 19 previously offered. We also support the efforts of the Republic of Moldova to strengthen its air defense capabilities and we will deliver equipment for this purpose, most likely next year”, said Minister Pistorius.

The official also appreciated the significant contribution of the Republic of Moldova to maintaining peace and stability worldwide, by participating in international missions such as the KFOR operation in the Kosovo region.

In Chisinau, the delegation led by Boris Pistorius also had a meeting with representatives of the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff, during which the aspects of bilateral cooperation, the needs of the National Army in the context of efforts to strengthen defense capabilities and the ways in which Germany would could support us in achieving these goals.

It should be noted that the assistance package offered today to the National Army by the German Government includes 5000 individual medical kits, 1000 hemostatic tourniquets and 260 kits intended for medical personnel from the subdivisions, units and institutions of the Ministry of Defense. The goods will improve the management of emergency medical situations and the provision of first aid in difficult terrain conditions.
