The National Army will modernize its defense capabilities thanks to a new support package from the EU

Chisinau, June 13, 2024 — The National Army will strengthen its anti-aircraft defense capabilities thanks to a new non-reimbursable support package from the European Union for the Republic of Moldova worth 9 million euros under the European Peace Facility (EPF). This new package is part of a wider cooperation with the EU in the field of defense and comes in the context of the request of the Republic of Moldova, based on the assessment of risks and threats in the context of the war in Ukraine and their effects on national security.

The new support involves the purchase of air defense systems to be contracted, procured and delivered according to a schedule agreed with the EU. The delivery of equipment to the National Army will be preceded by an agreement between the EU and the Government of the Republic of Moldova to ensure compliance with the requirements and conditions of the European Instrument for Peace.

Starting in 2021, EU support allows our country to significantly improve the operational efficiency of the National Army in accordance with EU and interoperability standards. The defense establishment will enhance and modernize its capabilities to protect critical civilian infrastructure as well as the population in crisis and emergency situations. It will also strengthen its capabilities to participate in international missions, including the EU, thus contributing to global peace and security.
