Two decades of Moldovan military music



Chisinau, November 8, 2012 — Presidential Orchestra is one of the most known musical bands of the Republic of Moldova and also one of the most valuable groups that represents us at various cultural events abroad. The statement was made ​​by the President of the Republic of Moldova Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Nicholae Timofti in a ceremony celebrating the 20th anniversary of Presidential Orchestra creation, held at the National Philharmonic “Sergei Lunchevici”.

Nicholae Timofti congratulated the Orchestra members on two decades of work and thanked all those who contributed to the formation and education of this band. “Your repertoire includes a number of considerable creations from the thesaurus of military, classical and folk music, and you were highly appreciated at international festivals in Belgium, Germany, Romania and Russia,” the President said.

In his turn, Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta stated Presidential Orchestra is the business card of National Army, a mirror reflecting the traditions and spirit of the soldiers. “We are proud that the military orchestra has been specifically designated as Presidential Orchestra. This is an honor, but at the same time requires us to accept and cope with new challenges”, Minister Marinuta said.

During the event, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces handed state awards to a group of musicians. Honorary titles “Master of Art” and “Honored Artist” were conferred for perseverance in carrying out tasks and state protocol, evidenced by high levels of training and mastery.

On the occasion of beautiful anniversary, Presidential Orchestra held a concert in which the notorious singers took part, including Nelly Ciobanu, Margareta Ivănuş, Nicolae Palit and Valentina Cojocaru.

On November 7th, 1992, Representative Orchestra of the Ministry of Defense, by the decree no. 311 of the President, was named as Presidential Orchestra of the Republic of Moldova.

Presidential Orchestra ensures the greeting and departures of the officials and delegations abroad, takes part in accreditation ceremonies of ambassadors, military parades and formal events. The Orchestra also participates in festivals, charity concerts, unveiling monuments, military applications, gives military honor when laying wreath of flowers at the monuments and tombs of solders that died on duty.
