Military sappers neutralized 2171 explosive objects



CHISINAU, January 3rd, 2013 — During 2012 National Army engineers destroyed 2171 explosive objects found in the different regions of the country.

According to lieutenant colonel Mihail Semionov, chief of engineer section of National Army military pioneers executed a total of 242 mining missions and neutralized 2171 explosive objects. Teams of engineers were requested most frequently in the following districts: Causeni, Anenii Noi, Orhei, Cantemir, Nisporeni, Ialoveni Criuleni and Stefan Voda.

Over 170 demining missions were carried out by engineers from Engineering Battalion " Codru " from Negreşti. Military pioneers of motorized infantry brigades “Moldova” from Balti, “Stefan cel Mare” from Chisinau, “Dacia” from Cahul executed 69 demining missions in different locations.

Most frequently they found artillery shells caliber 76 mm, 122 mm and hand grenades, Soviet and German production. At the same time, engineers have discovered several National Army aviation bombs weighing 250 kg, this type of ammunition being with imminent danger of explosion.

It is to be mentioned that of the total of explosive objects, 98 percents remained from the Second World War, and two other percents — of the armed conflict on the river Nistru.

There are six demining groups within the National Army that operate in the north, center and south of the country.
