Guard Battalion Celebrates Unit’s Day (video)



CHISINAU, October 22, 2016 — The National Army Guard Battalion celebrated today the 24th anniversary. The unit organized a ceremony attended by the leadership of the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff, former commanders, parents and relatives of the service members.

Minister of Defense Anatol Salaru awarded National Army medals and diplomas to a group of soldiers for their service performances. The Minister appreciated the efforts of the officers and NCOs who serve 24/24 not only in the Guard Battalion, but also in other units, and conduct all the missions with perseverance.

Commander of the Guard Battalion, Col. Andrian Balan, stated that his unit participates in the protocol activities of the Ministry of Defense and other government institutions, ensures the guard of the major importance facilities, and trains within national and multinational exercises.

Col. Balan also mentioned that the Battalion is usually supplied with conscripts and service members who are strictly selected in order to be able to carry out the unit’s missions.

The Unit’s Day ceremony included wrestling and weapon handling exercises performed by the soldiers of the Honor Guard Company and Special Forces Battalion “Fulger”, an exhibition of weapons, vehicles, and equipment, as well as a musical program.

The National Army Guard Battalion was established on October 16, 1992 and includes six subdivisions: Honor Guard Company, Guard Company, Military Police, General Staff Company, Driving Company and Supply Company.
