Festivities for Decorating the Veterans of Afghanistan War Are Organized throughout the Country

CHISINAU, February 12, 2019 — Ceremonies for awarding the Commemorative Cross “Participant in Combat Actions in Afghanistan (1979-1989)” are being held throughout the country, during February 8-22, 2019.

The activities are organized by the Ministry of Defense together with the local public authorities in the context of the 30th anniversary since the withdrawal of the limited contingent of soviet troops from Afghanistan.

So far, almost 2,100 veterans from Basarabeasca, Chisinau, Edinet, Floresti, Ialoveni, Orhei, and Soroca received the distinctions and identification cards. The other participants will be decorated during February, 2019.

The Commemorative Cross, drafted by the Union of Veterans of Afghanistan War of the Republic of Moldova, together with the National Committee of Heraldry, was manufactured by “Attributum” Ltd. The manufacture costs amounted to two million MDL allocated from the State Budget.

This year, over 8,500 veterans will receive the Commemorative Cross “Participant in Combat Actions in Afghanistan (1979-1989)”.
