KFOR-16 contingent - one month on mission in Kosovo



CHISINAU, February 10, 2022 - The 16th contingent of the National Army, deployed in Kosovo, has been carrying out activities specific to the KFOR operation in January-February this year.

According to the contingent commander, Lieutenant-Colonel Vladimir Covalenco, the Moldovan soldiers, together with those from Italy, took part in theoretical and practical sessions as part of the mandatory training at the beginning of the mission. The training included elements of a helicopter landing at the designated point. Similarly, peacekeepers trained in crowd control and fire phobia.

At the same time, servicemen from the Ukrainian contingent familiarized the Moldovan engineers with the types of ammunition found in the region.

Upon completion of the training period, the 40 officers, sergeants, and soldiers will be involved in guarding and defending important objectives, including the Visoki Dečani Monastery, reconnaissance and force presence in the area of responsibility of the Regional Command-West (RC-W), patrolling of the area of operations, as well as de-mining missions.

The KFOR-16 contingent left for Kosovo in January 2022. Their mission in Kosovo will last six months.
