Assistant Secretary-General of NATO, Ministry of Defense



CHISINAU, June 7, 2022 - Secretary of State Sergiu Plop met today with NATO’s Assistant Secretary-General, David Cattler, David Cattler accompanied by the Secretary of the Civil Security Committee, Gabriel Moldoveanu, and the Head of the NATO Liaison Office of the Republic of Moldova, Kristina Baleisyte.

The agenda included topics related to security and defense sector reform, achievements in the Partnership for Peace Planning and Review Process (PARP), the Defense Capacity Building Initiative (DCBI) the Building Integrity Program, and their role in the process of transforming the National Army according to international and democratic standards.

At the same time, the parties talked about the Long-Term Capabilities Development Plan (2020-2030) and the projects implemented in this regard.

The officials also referred to the objectives of the National Army to intensify participation in peacekeeping missions, the regional security situation, but also the aspirations of the Republic of Moldova for European integration.

In this context, Secretary of State Plop thanked the North Atlantic Alliance for its assistance in security and defense. For his part, David Cattler noted that over the years, NATO has supported the Republic of Moldova in implementing reforms in the field of cyber defense, modernization of the defense sector, but also in other areas of common interest, with full respect for the status of neutrality of our country.

In the end, the parties agreed to identify new opportunities to expand cooperation.
